This dairy-free version of the classic family favorite is really easy, super creamy, and absolutely delicious. My opinion of coleslaw did not improve when I moved to LA to go to college at UCLA and that dreaded old friend showed her face at every salad bar just as overdressed for a party I was never interested in attending anyway.
But, eventually, I started making light slaws with oil, lemon, and herbs, and then I started stirring in the vegan mayo and became a creamy vegan coleslaw convert. I always hold back half the dressing, add extra to taste, and pass any remaining dressing at the table for die-hard dressing drenchers. But, adding in some shredded brussels sprouts, chiffonaded kale, and sprouted watermelon seeds is fabulous in this recipe. There are some more exotic slaws on the site.

This recipe was inspired by the fabulous book that I have been pouring over that is filled with some very yummy sounding recipes called Clean Food by Terry Walters.
In moderation you may not mind these ingredients but since I just did a juice feast I feel so cleansed that I am more likely to say no to these and typically I avoid them when ever possible. Robert O. Young writes about the importance of avoiding yeast, fungus and mold that is present in most fermented foods and some grains in his book pH Miracle if you wish to explore this further. Essentially he believes that they are the root of all disease and with an alkaline body and the avoidance of these toxins you will be safer from disease including cancers.

Adding the sesame seeds raw versus toasting them will provide greater nutritional value to this dish as toasting does enhance flavour it does damage the beneficial elements.
Alkaline Diet Recipes
Do you feel confident that you are consuming a balanced variety of vegetables every single day? I ask this because I am always wondering. Below is a list of the 4 key minerals found in vegetables and whole foods that are necessary for alkalizing and maintaining a healthy body that is energized and vibrant. What I find is that each day we eat a pretty good variety but it is difficult to be sure that our intake is always suitable to cover all 4 minerals sufficiently every single day.
To guarantee that I had this covered and to further alkalize twice a day I drink a glass of alkaline water mixed with mineral salts formulated by Dr.Cut back on these about two weeks before any anticipated surgery for they are high in vitamin K, a clotting factor.
I eliminated these from my diet two weeks before my liver resection. I also stopped ginger root and vitamin E, both which can cause an increase in bleeding. All are high in calcium and contain all the essential amino acids. Vegetable protein sources create lactic acid which is easily neutralized by the lungs through breathing.
If you have thyroid problems, these vegetable family are to be avoided. Cruciform vegetables are loaded with DIMs, an effective agent for lowering our risk for developing cancers. It was calculated that we would have to eat about 2 pounds of these vegetables every week to receive this therapeutic effect.
This can be easily accomplished by drinking cabbage juice daily. To juice a quarter of a cabbage, I first juice an apple. I do not clean the juicer. I juice the cabbage and throw in about 7 almonds. I drink the cabbage juice down followed by the apple juice chaser. If this is not appealing to you, then you can try broccoli sprouts rolled in a corn tortilla with a slice of avocado. To release their digestion, take the sprouts with an acidophilus tablet. This is an especially useful vegetable when ones kidneys have taken a sudden downward turn.
The vitamin K in broccoli is a powerhouse nutrient for aiding ailing kidneys. I ate broccoli three times a day for two weeks. I coupled this broccoli binge by drinking seven full glasses of mineral water daily. Broccoli is a potent anti-oxidant and helps to flush out an overabundance of acids from the body system, especially uric acid and oxalic acid.
This aids the kidneys further in completing its job of purifying the internal body. I ate it raw. I ate it cooked. I made it into a pie. KALE This vegetable is the second highest in boron. They contain inulin that is very good for the body. I have planted them in the garden. They are easy to grow and shoot up like weeds. A beautiful golden sunflower reaches for the sky.
When the flowers die back, dig the roots, scrub well, and eat. Stick close to a bathroom the day you drink this juice.Acids and alkalis are substances that can be found in the science laboratory and at home all around us.
We can make a very easy red cabbage pH indicator to find out whether a substance is an acid or alkali. Acids can be found in the food we eat, in our body and around the home. Some acids, especially those found in cleaning products can be very harmful so take care around them and always read their hazard labels. Substances such as soap are alkalis and bicarbonate of soda which we use in baking but also harmful things like bleach.
We use a substance called an indicator to test the pH of a substance. An indicator will change colour in the presence of an acid or alkali. Sieve the water and cabbage into a jug — you will notice that the cabbage liquid is very purple in colour.
Add a small amount of each test substance to a separate cup or container, try to keep the amount of test substance the same. Use a pipette to drop about 20ml of red cabbage indicator into each cup and record the colour the indicator changes to. In this case of red cabbage indicator the colour will change from purple to red if it is an acid and from purple to green if it is an alkali.
The different shades of colour will depend on the strength of the acid or alkali. If there is no colour change the substance is said to be neutral. The indicator should turn red, as the carbon dioxide we breathe out reacts with the water to form carbonic acid.

Avocados are an excellent source of alkalinity and fantastic for cleansing. They are classed as a fruit, but are one of the few truly alkaline fruits. They are so alkaline they actually make it only my famous list of the seven most alkaline foods here.
The beauty of avocados are that they are such a good source of health promoting fats, which help speed the metabolism to help reduce weight, promote healthy skin and help stimulate the cleansing actions of the digestive system. Avocados also encourage elimination of toxins from the body from the absorption of fat soluble vitamins including vitamin A, D, E and K. Finally, avocados provide a great source of the super-cool antioxidant glutathione.
